City of Akron announces schedule for 'Rock the Lock' concert series, other summer events

The concert-season at Akron's Lock 3 will kick off Memorial Day weekend.

As the number of vaccinations against the Coronavirus continues to rise in Ohio, more and more local music venues are announcing the return of concerts and live-music events for the summer. 

On Thursday, the City of Akron announced its own schedule for the 'Rock the Lock' summer music series, slated to kick off Memorial Day weekend at Lock 3. 

"Since opening in 2003, Lock 3 has hosted more than four million visitors and is set to open its season with the first Rock the Lock concert, presented by WONE on Friday, May 28, 2021, with the endorsed Aerosmith tribute band Draw the Line," says the city in a press release.

  • May 28, 2021: Draw the Line, the endorsed Aerosmith Tribute Band 
  • June 4, 2021: Dirty Deeds, Extreme AC/DC Tribute
  • June 11, 2021: Fleetwood Macked, Fleetwood Mac Tribute 
  • June 12, 2021: Michael Austin Project, Russel Thompson with DJ Mo Lee
  • June 18, 2021: Crush, a Bon Jovi Tribute
  • June 25, 2021: Satisfaction International Rolling Stones Show
  • June 26, 2021: Old School Soul presents Midnight Star
  • August 7, 2021: The Real Deal and Funkyard-X
  • September 11, 2021: Naughty by Nature and Floco Torres

Looking for something to do with the kids? Akron's Lock 3 has events for the family as well! 

Beginning in June, the venue will host weekly family movie nights under the stars every Sunday night at 8 p.m. Families can camp out with blankets and snacks and enjoy movies like 'The Lion King,' 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,' and 'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.' 

The city also plans to offer lessons to kids on bike safety, fire safety, nutrition and more during these movie nights.

Akron officials also say that they do plan to follow COVID-19 guidelines enforced by the Ohio Department of Health as well the Summit County Board of Health. A limited number of tickets will be sold for each event and guests will be required to wear masks when not actively eating or drinking, or when social distancing is not possible. 

"Individuals will be asked to not gather in groups larger than 10 and to stay at least 6 feet from other groups. Additionally, anyone planning on attending an event at Lock 3 is asked to perform a self-health assessment and stay home if you have a fever, cough or other COVID-19 symptoms," the city says in a press release.
