AKRON, Ohio — One person is dead and three others are injured after an apartment fire broke out in Akron on Tuesday evening.
According to the Akron Fire Department, crews responded to a building fire on Fleming Drive just before 6 p.m. Firefighters were able to control the blaze approximately ten minutes after they arrived at the scene.
Fire officials say one adult died and three other people were taken to area hospitals. A total of seven people, five adults and two children, were displaced.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Arika Rodgers. Her cause of death has been determined as smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
The Red Cross was notified after residents were displaced. Akron Police and Victims Assistance provided aid to residents at the scene during and after the fire.
