Akron police investigate 1-year-old boy’s death

'Upon arrival, the first responding officer found the child unresponsive and provided CPR until EMS arrived.'

AKRON, Ohio — Detectives with the Akron Police Department announced Monday they are investigating the sudden death of a 1-year-old boy, which happened last week.

Police say it was around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, when officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Hancock Avenue “for a cardiac arrest involving the child.”

“Upon arrival, the first responding officer found the child unresponsive and provided CPR until EMS arrived,” police said in a press release.

The boy was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His name is being withheld pending further investigation.

“Detectives have interviewed several people, analyzed evidence, and are awaiting further testing,” police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
