AKRON, Ohio — Bond has been set at $1 million for 19-year-old Ian Belcher of Akron, who pleaded not guilty in connection with the death of a 1-year-old boy.
A judge set that amount Wednesday morning during the arraignment hearing in Akron Municipal Court.
Belcher was arrested on Tuesday by members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. He was wanted by the Akron Police Department for aggravated murder after allegedly killing a 1-year-old boy.
Belcher's arrest comes five days after officers with the Akron Police Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Hancock Avenue for a heart issue involving a child. Upon arrival, the boy was found unresponsive and taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Summit County Medical Examiner identified the infant victim as 1-year-old Arteyon Cannon. An autopsy showed blunt force injuries, however, the final report and cause of death are pending as investigators await further testing and investigative results.
The judge also noted that Belcher also has an additional traffic case open in court, which will be determined at a later time.
If found guilty of aggravated murder, Belcher could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
