20-year-old man shot dead after 'altercation' in Akron; suspect in custody

CLEVELAND — A 20-year-old man is dead and a man is in police custody after an altercation led to a fatal shooting in Akron Saturday night, police said. 

According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of Coventry Street at 11:25 p.m. and found the victim in front of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, identified as 20-year-old Elijah Jones, was later pronounced dead at a city hospital.

Police took Stacy Martin, 26, into custody shortly after the shooting. He was charged with murder, tampering with evidence, weapons under disability and "other related charges," police said.

He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond.

According to investigators, the shooting was a result of "an altercation of some kind" between Martin and the victim. An investigation is ongoing to determine if other people were around the home when the shooting took place.
