24-year-old man shot, killed in Akron, found in canal

AKRON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after the body of a 24-year-old man was found in a canal behind an apartment building in Akron.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office says Akron police and fire responded to the 700 block of Fleming Drive for a shooting at around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. 

At the scene, first responders discovered a victim in a canal behind the apartment complex with a gunshot wound. After pulling the 24-year-old man from the water, officials initiated CPR and transported the victim to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has since been identified as Tyson Arnold of Akron. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to Akron Police, officers recovered over a dozen shell casings at the scene, "suggesting more than one shooter." Two vehicles were also struck by bullets from the gunfire. 

At this time, there are no suspects or known motives behind the shooting.
