3 men arrested after robbery, kidnapping in Akron

Three men were arrested following a "brazen" robbery and kidnapping on Thursday.

AKRON, Ohio — Three men in Akron were arrested following what police are calling a "brazen" robbery and kidnapping on Thursday.

According to Akron Police, multiple officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Ardella Avenue after another resident reported seeing men with guns and ski masks just before 2 p.m. on Thursday. After the officers arrived, the suspects ran into the house before attempting to exit the house, which was surrounded.

Officers then looked into the house, where they saw a 20-year-old woman being held at gunpoint. One of the suspects also briefly pointed a gun at one of the uniformed officers.

SWAT was called to the scene but was unable to fully mobilize before the suspects forced the woman, at gunpoint, outside and to the rear of the house. Officers proceeded to negotiate with the suspects, who then released the hostage, who fled on foot. One of the suspects was ultimately apprehended without incident.

The two other suspects proceeded to flee to Georgia Avenue. They confronted a couple, a 63-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, who were driving down the street. The suspects then forced their way into the couple’s vehicle, demanding to be driven out of the area.

While driving down Georgia Avenue, the couple was able to alert the officers that the two suspects were inside their car. After surrounding the car, officers rescued the couple and took the suspects into custody without further incident.

Bryan McCosky, 34, Rikki Rudd, 33, and Alvin Brown, 19, were each arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery, Kidnapping and Felonious Assault and later transported to the Summit County Jail. Several guns and cash were recovered from the scene, in addition to other evidence.

Police say a 23-year-old man was beaten by the suspects during the incident. The victim was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 20-year-old victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment for minor injuries. The 63-year-old man and 70-year-old woman were not injured in the incident. One of the suspects also sustained a minor injury to the arm as the K9 assisted with the arrest.

"The incident underscores the dangers and risks our dedicated first responders face daily," Akron Police said in a statement. "It highlights our continued commitment to enhancing public safety and our ongoing efforts to help make Akron safer for everyone."
