34-year-old woman shot in Akron

Police say the woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after a 34-year-old woman was allegedly shot while walking early Friday morning.

Police say they responded to Summa Health Akron City Hospital at around 4:34 a.m. after the victim arrived via a private vehicle.

According to the victim, an unknown suspect shot her in the chest while she was walking on Sweitzer Avenue. Officers later discovered shell casings located in the 1300 block of Sweitzer Avenue. 

Upon investigating, detectives believe that there may have been an altercation in the area that resulted in the gunshots, but it is unknown if the victim was the intended target. 

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries according to police.
