AKRON, Ohio — What started as the perfect summer day turned into a nightmare for Jayden Rosenal and his family.
A driver hit the seven-year-old while playing in the Kenmore area of Akron knocking him unconscious.
His older brother, nine-year-old Jordan heard sirens while playing and then saw his brother on the ground, so he ran to his side.
“I ran towards him and I was like, ‘Jayden breathe,’” Jordan tells us 3News. “I started crying because I seen the scrapes on the floor and the only thing I was thinking of was the car accident.”
Paramedics rushed Jayden to a local hospital where he suffered serious injuries.
“He had severe brain bleeding and a severe skull fracture,” says his aunt, Sophia Adams. “He was knocked out and he would not wake up.”
The family finally had a glimpse of hope after he got up and walked for the first time since the incident on June 7. The family tells 3News Jayden is expected to make a full recovery.
It will be a long road to recovery, which is why Adams set up a GoFundMe for the family. The boys’ mom was on the first day of a new job the day Jayden was hit. She quit to take care of him.
“I started the GoFundMe to help the family and so the parents can be with their kid helping him recover.”
Jordan is looking forward to his baby brother getting out of the hospital. He says the first thing wants to do is buy him some presents. Meanwhile, he has a message for drivers.
“They should be looking out for kids,” he says. “Don’t be going fast at all times. They should turn the corner slowly.”
Akron police arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with this incident, but the police would not give any more information on his charges.
