97.5 WONE teases ‘farewell’ announcement: Listeners fear Akron radio station is going off the air

'After sharing over 30 years of your life, it’s been fun. On Monday, March 11 at 7 a.m., the time has come for 97.5 WONE to say farewell.'

AKRON, Ohio — The "farewell" announcement has been made... Read more about it HERE.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Something is happening at 97.5 WONE that has listeners concerned about the fate of their favorite classic rock radio station.

It all started last week when WONE began airing a commercial regarding an announcement they will be making Monday morning.

“After sharing over 30 years of your life, it’s been fun. On Monday, March 11 at 7 a.m., the time has come for 97.5 WONE to say farewell.”

That brief commercial has summoned what some fear could be the end to Akron’s self-described “Home of Rock & Roll.”

Social media has been buzzing about it, too:

We don't know any more than you do. Management has something in store for all of us Monday morning...

- “Just announced on the radio they are going off the air Monday morning."

- “Just heard the announcement today. Told the group at work. 4 generations of people immediately came unglued. Shocked was putting it mildly. …”

- "You can’t be going off the air. I have been listening for yeas and years."

- "Been listening since 1985! Don't lose my rock-n-roll station!"

So what is going on?

While some believe this means WONE is signing off forever, others think it could be a change of format or nothing more than a publicity stunt.

But remember... This tease doesn't say anything about WONE going off the air. It only says it's time for them to say "farewell."

Could it be something as simple as a ticket giveaway connected to Peter Frampton's recently announced "Farewell" tour, which is coming to Blossom Music Center on Aug. 8?

We reached out to WONE management for comment, but have not received any response.

Stay tuned...
