Akron: Drunk driver sentenced 8 years for crash that killed teen

John Bird received eight years for a crash that killed 17-year-old Grant Wilson.

AKRON, Ohio -- The man who admitted guilt in a deadly crash that killed a Chagrin Falls teen was sentenced to eight years behind bars.

John Bird appeared in court Monday, where he learned his fate for the deadly 2016 crash. His license was also suspended for life.

He pleaded guilty earlier this year to four charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular assault and OVI.

Bird faced a maximum jail sentence of 18 years.

Bird was driving his 2015 Jeep Cherokee on the night of Dec. 23, 2016, when he struck a 2014 Audi as it tried to turn left onto Sunnyside Avenue in Akron. The Audi spun and struck a utility pole with three people inside, including 17-year-old Grant Wilson.

Grant died as a result of his injuries.
