AKRON, Ohio — The principal of East High School in Akron has been placed on paid administrative leave following allegations he hit a student last month.

According to a police report, the 15-year-old male sophomore was sent to Principal Vyrone Finney's office on the afternoon of Sept. 19 following an incident in English class. Finney sent the student to in-school suspension and told an instructor the teen was to stay there for the rest of the day. However, the boy told officers they had agreed on only one period.

The student says he then made fun of how tight Finney's suit was, and Finney shot back saying he "got it from [the student's] mother." The teen claims he went down to the office to call his mother and verify the punishment, but was not allowed, and security was called.

When the student would not leave the area and was told he was at risk of being arrested, Finney then apparently suspended him for three days. The teen then admitted to calling Finney a "b---h," causing Finney to increase the penalty to 10 days. When the student countered by calling him a "lazy ass b---h," that's when Finney allegedly slapped him twice in the face. Officers separated the two, and the student went home before reporting the incident to police later that day.

Investigators say they spoke to Finney and he admitted to striking the boy "with an open hand to the face," but claims he felt the student "was coming at him." Finney added he "was not in the mood to be called a b---h today."

While no criminal charges have been filed at this time, there is apparently video surveillance footage of the incident from the school. Akron Public Schools says it "continues its investigation" into the alleged altercation.

In addition, a petition calling for Finney's resignation has begun circulating online.
