AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating a Facebook Marketplace robbery that happened on Wednesday when a suspect allegedly fired a gunshot.
Police say the incident happened around 6:35 p.m. in the 1100 block of Morningview Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they met a man and a woman who stated that they had arranged to meet to buy an iPhone, iPad and other items from someone on Facebook Marketplace.
"When the victims got to the meeting location, they were met by an unknown male who produced a handgun and demanded their money. The suspect reportedly threatened to kill them if they didn’t comply," said Akron police in a press release.
According to police, the suspect then allegedly fired a gunshot into the ground and took the victim's money that they threw out of the car window to avoid being harmed.
The suspect then allegedly fled on foot with an unknown amount of the victims' money.
Akron police noted that they recovered a shell casing and other evidence associated with the incident.
At this time, the incident is being investigated and police are trying to identify and locate the suspect.
