AKRON, Ohio — Akron firefighters are being praised as heroes after rescuing a dog from the Cuyahoga River during snowy conditions on Monday night.
The Akron Fire Department posted on Facebook that their technical rescue and dive team rescued a dog that was perched on a log, exhausted in the Cuyahoga River on Front Street and Gorge Boulevard at around 7 p.m.
Due to a steep embankment next to the river, a rope rescue system was used in order to save the dog.
"A firefighter was lowered down a steep embankment and removed the dog from the water. The rescuer and the dog were then raised back up to a safe location, completing the rescue," said Akron fire in a press release.
Akron fire says that the dog was taken to a local veterinarian by the Akron Police Department.
