AKRON, Ohio — As winter weather approaches, the City of Akron is looking to hire 25 seasonal snowplow drivers.
City officials say that the hires will join their 2023-24 snow and ice removal program, which is responsible for clearing snowfall and de-icing over 829 centerline miles of roadway with over 1,919 lane miles covering almost 122 million square feet.
“The snow and ice season is just around the corner and we’re looking for great candidates to join our team,” said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “This is an excellent opportunity to get a good paying seasonal job with the city and learn more about other full-time opportunities as they become available.”
In order to be qualified for the job, candidates must have at least one year of experience operating moderately complex automotive equipment, and a valid commercial driver’s license (Class B) issued by the State of Ohio, with no air brakes restriction.
Highlights of the position include:
- $19.75/hr compensation
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week with opportunities for overtime
- Morning (Monday-Friday 4 am-12 pm) and afternoon (Monday-Friday 12 pm-8 pm) shifts available as needed
- Using city-owned vehicles during working hours, avoiding wear and tear on personal vehicles.
- Eligible employees will be offered a spot next season.
Officials say that candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be contacted via email to schedule an interview.
