AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on Thursday with the assistance of the SWAT Team, Crime Scene Unit, and Detective Bureau.

Gene A. Yoder II was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, breaking and entering and theft after authorities responded to the report of a break-in at the 4800 block of South Main Street in Green. According to witnesses, a black BMW fled the scene and was located by the New Franklin Police Department while heading westbound on West Comet Road in New Franklin.

Yoder then fled from the vehicle and dropped several items that had recently been taken from other vehicles, according to authorities. Yoder ran into a residence in the 200 block of West Comet Road. The black BMW he had been driving was a stolen vehicle from the Akron Auto Auction and had a license plate that was also stolen from a place in North Canton.

Yoder did not surrender immediately, authorities said, but once entry was made into the residence he was placed under arrest without incident.

The matter remains under further investigation.
