AKRON, Ohio — Jason Conrad, a 39-year-old inmate who made headlines last month after escaping custody in Akron, has been sentenced on multiple charges.
It was announced Friday that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Susan Baker Ross sentenced Conrad to 18-22.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including escape.
On April 21, Conrad was arrested after being stopped by officers with the Summit County Drug Unit. While searching his Akron home, investigators found a weapon and a bag of cocaine.
Prior to sentencing, Conrad pled guilty to the following charges:
- Trafficking in Cocaine
- Having Weapons Under Disability
- Unlawful Possession of Dangerous Ordinance
- Escape
On May 30, Conrad escaped custody as he was taken to Summa Health White Pond Medical Center at 1 Park West Boulevard in Akron. Authorities say the escape occurred around 8 a.m. as a deputy was removing him from a transport vehicle.
Conrad, who authorities say was handcuffed and wearing a boot for a previous injury, “was able to escape and ran away after removing the boot.”
Just one day later, Conrad was taken into custody after law enforcement officials received multiple tips about him being spotted in Akron. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit and after surveillance officers and an Ohio State Highway Patrol plane spotted him attempting to flee.
