AKRON -- An Akron man was sentenced to 56 1/2 years to life behind bars for the murder of a 4-year-old girl.
Judge Christine Croce sentenced 32-year-old Darnell Bitting on Wednesday.
A jury last week found Bitting guilty on two counts of murder, six counts of felonious assault and eight firearms specifications.
Bitting shot and killed 4-year-old Janaya Swain in February when he fired an AK-47 at a car on Mercer Avenue during an argument with Swain's mother. Three other children were in the car at the time of the shooting.
He was captured by U.S. Marshals the next day.
