AKRON, Ohio — Akron Mayor Shammas Malik announced a new app for residents that aims to improve accessibility of services and communications in the city.
The app is called "Akron 311" and can be downloaded for free today from the app store on any android or Apple device.
Users can create a profile to enter service requests, access city information relevant at that moment and set up unique notifications based on the interests of each individual resident.
Some of the notifications that can be set up include trash/recycling collection reminders, updates on service requests and more.
“I’m excited to launch the new Akron 311 App for our residents to make our city services and communications that much more accessible to our community,” said Mayor Malik. “During my campaign, I often spoke of the need for an easier way to track city service requests and this app does just that. Also, by creating an account and entering your address, residents will have access to notifications sent directly to their phones for everything from trash collection reminders to updates on their service request.”
Residents will still be able to enter service requests by calling 3-1-1 or using the online service at AkronOhio.gov/311.
The app will also show residents who intend to submit a service request if other residents have also submitted the same request.
Within the app, links to other city resources such as utilities bill payments, social media channels, Akron City Council calendars and more can be found.
