AKRON, Ohio — When newly elected Akron Mayor Shammas Malik delivers his first State of the City address on Wednesday, April 10, it will come as he marks 100 days in office.
It also happens to be his 33rd birthday.
The 2024 speech will take place at the Akron Civic Theatre. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the event slated to start at 6 p.m.
Residents are invited to attend the State of the City by registering for free on the Akron Roundtable site HERE. The speech will also be live streamed through the city of Akron’s YouTube page.
“I plan to give a progress update on my team’s 100-day plan, highlight some successes and focus on what’s next for the City of Akron,” Mayor Malik said in a press release. “This event is really about the people of Akron and it’s important to me that our residents have the opportunity to attend at no cost to them. This will be an evening of community and fellowship and I invite everyone to join including residents, businesses, non-profits, community partners and beyond.”
Mayor Malik began his first term in office last month after winning the November election.
"We are going to do three things," he said at his ceremonial swearing-in back on Jan. 6. "We are going to build a team, we are going to deliver high-quality, consistent city services and we are going to begin to make real progress on the entrenched challenges that our community faces."
