AKRON, Ohio — Whether the force is calling you to take the next step in your relationship or your perfect wedding comes with a side of potato teezers and a strawberry milkshake, the city of Akron awaits to offer your dream ceremony.
Next month, Akron Municipal Court is offering two unique wedding experiences for couples ready to take the next step.
On Saturday, May 4, Star Wars themed weddings will be offered. Fittingly, May 4 is known internationally as Star Wars Day. Ceremonies will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Highland Universal Gatheringspot (133 Merriman Road).
Ceremonies will be held indoors while "Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" plays on a screen as a backdrop. Judge Ron Cable will be on site to officiate.
What symbolizes a wedding more than the ring? At the next experience, the rings are made not of metal, but onion.
The Swensons location at 40 South Hawkins Avenue will host ceremonies on their grounds on Wednesday, May 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Judge Jon Oldham will be on site to officiate. Just be sure to turn your headlights off during the ceremony.
According to Akron Municipal Court, the fee for each ceremony is $35 for those in the court's jurisdiction and $50 for those outside of the court's jurisdiction. They also ask that the amount of family and friends in attendance be kept to less than 10 guests per couple.
Appointments are first-come, first-served and must be scheduled and paid before the date of the ceremony you wish to attend. A marriage license must be obtained from the Summit County Probate Court before the wedding.
To book your time slot and pay the fee, visit Akron Municipal court at 172 South Broadway Street in downtown Akron Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
