Akron police say the shooting happened at around 11:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Stadelman Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the victim outside of the home with a gunshot wound. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to a nearby hospital, but died shortly after.

Additionally, a 31-year-old man, who reportedly fired the accidental shot was injured. According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was in the driver's seat of a vehicle with two other individuals, including the 31-year-old Denzel Ayers.

Ayers allegedly was handling a loaded handgun that he caused to discharge. Police say that the shot appeared to have grazed Ayers in the leg first and then struck the victim.

Ayers was booked into the Summit County Jail and was charged with negligent homicide and weapons while intoxicated.

At this time, no other information has been released and Akron police are still investigating.
