Akron police: 5 kids arrested in connection to robbery and assault of woman at bus stop

The 52-year-old woman reported being robbed and assaulted by a group of teens who were near the bus stop when she got off.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police have arrested five juveniles who are accused of robbing and assaulting a 52-year-old woman in August.

Over the past two days, Akron police say they arrested two boys and three girls between the ages of 10-16 years old. Each suspect is being charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery after allegedly severely injuring the victim. 

The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 5, in the 900 block of Barbara Avenue. The 52-year-old woman reported being robbed and assaulted by a group of teens who were near the bus stop. As she exited the bus, the suspects began harassing her. 

The suspects allegedly punched and kicked the victim's head and body during the attack and eventually fled the scene with her purse and cell phone. The victim, who was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital for medical treatment, sustained facial injuries and an injury to her wrist during the attack.

Police say that "despite many challenges" detectives, assisted by patrol were able to identify persons of interest early in the investigation after conducting numerous interviews, combing through evidence and reviewing surveillance photos. 

"The members of the Akron Police Department remain committed to enhancing public safety. We will always work collaboratively with one another, our other law enforcement partners, and the community to help ensure Akron is safer for all," said Akron police officials in a release following the arrests.
