Akron police: Weapons, drugs, cash found following traffic stops

Akron police say they conducted several traffic stops on Wednesday, resulting in the recovery of seven handguns, marijuana, and a large sum of cash.

AKRON, Ohio — Four men were arrested in Akron after a collaboration to get illegal firearms and drugs off the city's streets. 

Akron police say they conducted several traffic stops on Wednesday, resulting in the recovery of seven handguns, marijuana, and a large sum of cash. 

Below is a timeline of the incidents: 

4:52 p.m. | East Tallmadge and Home Avenues 

Officers stopped a 42-year-old man for reckless driving. While searching the vehicle, officers discovered two loaded handguns. 

6:47 p.m. | Diagonal Road and Grace Avenue

Officers saw a vehicle committing a traffic violation at Diagonal Road and Grace Avenue. Police say that the driver, a 42-year-old man, was "slow to stop" but eventually pulled into a driveway in the 500 block of Wildwood Avenue about a half mile after officers activated their lights and sirens. After ignoring verbal commands to exit the car, the driver was taken into custody without incident. During the incident, the driver told officers there was a handgun inside of the vehicle. 

10 p.m. | 2300 block of 11 Street Southwest 

Upon stopping a 33-year-old man for an equipment violation, police found that the driver was driving under suspension. After taking him into custody, officers recovered three handguns, seven pounds of marijuana and over $9,000 in cash

10:36 p.m. | Lovers Lane 

Officers pulled over a 29-year-old man after he was allegedly driving his vehicle recklessly. After being stopped, the driver fled from the scene on foot and was later apprehended behind a residence in the 600 block of Columbus Avenue. Police say a handgun was recovered in the suspect's flight path.
