AKRON, Ohio — An illegal gambling operation has been busted, according to Akron police.

Police say they became aware of the establishment located in the 2200 block of East Avenue after receiving complaints from residents and "later, observing suspicious activity of their own."

According to officials, during an ongoing investigation, officers found new information and gathered evidence "confirming" their suspicions about what was happening at the location.

On Wednesday, at around 5 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at the establishment, forcing entry after individuals inside refused to open the door.

After entering, authorities detained multiple individuals and seized the following items:

  • Over a dozen electronic gambling machines
  • $11,000 in cash
  • Multiple televisions
  • Several cell phones
  • A loaded handgun that was later discovered to be stolen and other property

Three men, ages 32-58, were arrested. All face charges of illegal gambling, while one man received an additional charge for operating an illegal gambling house.

Akron police noted that the 58-year-old suspect was released with a summons to appear in court.
