AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating a shooting at the Summit Lake Apartments that left a 24-year-old woman dead.
When police responded to the scene early Sunday morning around 12:26 a.m., officers found the victim in her kitchen with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital by EMS, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A spokesperson for the Akron Police Department said a suspect has not been identified.
The victim has since been identified by the Summit County Medical Examiner as Paige Calich, of Akron. Neighbors told 3News she was a "devoted mother" of two children who had just celebrated her birthday.
