The Akron Police Department is investigating today after a hooting that took place Tuesday afternoon.
According to officials, a 19-year-old man was shot in the 1400 block of Bernic Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Officers found the man in the driver's seat of a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and found shell casings nearby.
The 19-year-old was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, but was later pronounced dead. The man's identity is being withheld at this time pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
Detectives soon discovered that the suspect or suspects were inside of the victim's car at the time that he was shot. It is believed that an unidentified suspect then fled on foot and barricaded himself inside of a home on Russell Avenue.
SWAT was called to the scene around 6:45 p.m. and just before 10 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
A search of the home recovered no other persons inside.
At this time, detectives with the Akron Police Department have not said whether or not the male played a role in the homicide.
