Akron Pride Festival to return Saturday, August 26

The festival is taking place in downtown Akron on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

AKRON, Ohio — Thousands are expected to gather in Akron on Saturday for the annual Akron Pride Festival and Equity March.

The event, which shows Akron's support for equality and equity of all people, runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Akron on Aug. 26. 

The day will kick off with the annual 2023 Akron Equity March, which will start downtown on Main Street at the Spaghetti Warehouse at 10 a.m. 

Many national and local entertainers, including Greyson Chance, will put on performances at the Lock 3 Stage, Equity Stage and Smukers Cascade Plaza. The night will end with a fireworks show from Lock 3 at 10 p.m.

This year also features the inaugural Akron Pride Festival 5K Run. The first-ever 5K will take place on Friday, Aug. 25, at 7:30 p.m. 

"The Akron Pride 5K invites individuals from all walks of life, irrespective of age, gender, sexual orientation, or athletic ability. Whether you are an experienced runner or a first-time participant, this event is for everyone. This is a family- and pet-friendly event supporting the Akron Pride Festival and the LGBTQ+ community in Akron," said organizers in a release. 

The course will begin at Canal Place, winding through the city to Summit Lake Park then along the Ohio and Erie Canal towpath back to Canal Place.
