4 final candidates announced for Akron Public Schools superintendent: See who's in the running to lead the district

The second round of interviews and the anticipated board decision is expected June 29.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron Public Schools have narrowed down its field of candidates for its vacant superintendent position.

The district announced on Thursday that four candidates have been selected to take part in the second round of interviews, which will take place next week. 

Here are the four candidates:

  • Dr. Nia Campbell, Chief Academic Officer, Aurora (CO) Public Schools
  • Dr. Jermaine Dawson, Chief Academic and Accountability Officer, Birmingham (AL) City Schools
  • Mary Outley, Interim Superintendent, Akron Public Schools
  • Dr. C. Michael Robinson, Chief Academic Officer, East Baton Rouge (LA) Parish School System

Akron Public Schools says the second round of interviews and anticipated board decision is expected around June 29. The preferred start date for the new superintendent is slated for Aug. 1. 

The district announced May 1 that it would be conducting a national search for "an experienced, energetic leader" to take over as superintendent following the resignation of Christine Fowler-Mack in February.
