Akron's minor league baseball team has something fun and purple planned for this upcoming season.

On Friday, the Rubber Ducks announced that on Saturday, May 28, the team will rebrand and become the Akron Homers.

The new name celebrates "Akron's favorite, purple-dotted pigeon mascot," a press release from the organization stated.

Homer, the current mascot, has been with the team since the franchise first moved to Akron in 1997. Homer transforms from a 'friendly mascot to a powerful purple pigeon with the help of a crystal," the release stated.

To celebrate, the first 1,000 fans will be gifted Homer bobbleheads on May 28. At the same game, the ballpark will be transformed into QuAkron Comic Fest and guests will have the opportunity to meet different comic vendors.

The RubberDucks will wear their Homers identity during the 7:05 p.m. game, and the celebration of the purple polka-dotted pigeon will be capped with postgame fireworks.
