4 teens hurt in Akron shooting, police say victims thought gunshots were fireworks

'When officers arrived, there was a large gathering of people still on scene and others running from the area,' according to the Akron Police Department.

AKRON, Ohio — Four teens were taken to the hospital after an overnight shooting, which happened shortly after midnight Tuesday in an Akron parking lot at 700 East Exchange Street.

Police say the victims include three females, who range in age from 17-18, while the fourth victim is a 19-year-old man.

All four were transported to area hospitals “by individuals who were on scene.” Police say their injuries are not life-threatening.

“When officers arrived, there was a large gathering of people still on scene and others running from the area,” Akron police say. “Officers were able to determine there had been a party in the lot when shots were fired by one or more suspects.”

Police say the four victims thought the sound of gunshots was fireworks until they realized they had been struck.

The preliminary investigation was unable to determine any suspect information, police explain.
