Akron police: 20-year-old taken to hospital after suspect shoots into car with infant child inside

The shooting happened on Wednesday morning in the area of Innovation Way and 3rd Ave.

AKRON, Ohio — A 20-year-old was injured in Akron after a suspect allegedly shot into a car with an infant inside.

Akron police say the initial shooting happened on Wednesday at around 1:30 a.m. when the victim was traveling in a vehicle in the area of Innovation Way and 3rd Avenue. 

According to information gathered by investigators, an unknown suspect pulled up to the vehicle and opened fire. 

Akron police say the suspect then allegedly followed the victim's car to East Market Street, where additional shots were fired. The victim, who was the front seat passenger, was struck in the leg. 

Following the shooting, the driver of the vehicle transported the victim to Summa Health Akron City Hospital. 

Police noted that an infant child was also in the car at the time of the shooting. Neither the child nor the driver were injured.
