AKRON, Ohio — A man is in custody following an overnight shooting in Akron.
Police say the shooting happened on Wednesday at around 1:50 a.m. in the 700 block of Russell Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The victim, whose injuries are non-life threatening, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.
While investigating, Akron police learned that the suspect fired multiple shots into the residence and fled the scene.
Following the shooting, officers tracked the suspect to a home in the 800 block of Raymond Street and located his vehicle in the backyard.
"Officers tried unsuccessfully to de-escalate the situation and convince the suspect to come out of the house and surrender, but he reportedly refused," said Akron police in a press release.
Moments later, SWAT was called to the scene. Eventually, 65-year-old Leland Clark was taken into custody after climbing out of a second-story window.
Clark was charged with felonious assault in connection with the shooting.
Additionally, Akron police noted that Clark and the victim knew each other and the shooting "may have been the result of an ongoing dispute."
