AKRON, Ohio — A 21-year-old man has died after a late-night shooting at the Borders Drive Thru in the 1300 block of South Arlington Street in Akron.
When first responders arrived at the scene around 11:15 p.m., Akron police say the employee was found critically injured with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck.
"Within minutes of arriving, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene," police say.
The victim has been identified as Ahmad Alibrahim of Akron, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Akron police say preliminary information shows that an unknown male suspect approached the drive thru on foot and attempted to purchase a black and mild cigar.
"The suspect reportedly handed the employee a bill in poor and unacceptable condition," according to Akron police. "The suspect then began arguing with the clerk, produced the firearm and demanded the cigar. The employee then gave the suspect the item and asked him to leave. Before doing so, the suspect fired at least two shots at the group of employees inside the establishment, striking the victim."
Police say the suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Detectives are working to identify the person responsible. Anybody with information is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by calling the Summit County Crime Stoppers at 330-434-COPS.
