44-year-old woman dies following shooting in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after a 44-year-old woman died in an overnight shooting. 

According to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, the shooting happened on Sunday, Oct. 27, at around 11:45 p.m. in the 300 block of East South Street. 

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found an unresponsive victim in a residence with a gunshot wound. 

Officials pronounced the victim dead at the scene. At this time, the victim's identity has not yet been released. 

Akron police say they searched the area and located shell casings nearby and found that a parked car had been struck at least once. 

"Detectives don’t know the exact circumstances involved in the woman’s death and are working to gather additional information that might help them identify the person responsible for the fatal shooting," said Akron police in a press release.
