AKRON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after a 32-year-old man was killed in an Akron shooting.
According to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, the shooting happened on Friday, Nov. 22, at around 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 700 block of Wren Walk.
Officials say that when first responders arrived, they found the victim inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who has been identified as Douglas Waters, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Akron police say investigators determined that the suspects "forced their way inside the front door of the residence and, once inside, confronted and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene."
During the investigation, Akron police officers identified the suspects and began searching for them. Soon after, Akron police located one of the suspects, who is believed to be the shooter, on Vernon Odom, near East Avenue, and took him into custody.
The suspect was then transported to a hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound he allegedly sustained during the home invasion.
Akron police arrested the second suspect around 5:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue.
The suspects were identified as Gerald Wilson, 25, who was injured during the home invasion, and DeVionne Bigby, 26, were both charged with aggravated burglary, murder and felonious assault in connection with the senseless incident.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and Akron police are both investigating the incident.
