Akron police investigate 2 separate shootings: Here's a timeline of the incidents

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating two separate shootings that happened just a few miles apart.

Here’s a timeline of what happened…

4:35 p.m. Wednesday

Police responded to a shooting near the Stop and Go minimart in the 1200 block of Diagonal Road.

“When they arrived, they located a 27-year-old male inside the store with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg,” according to a press release from Akron police.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Shortly after the shooting, police say they received information that a 23-year-old man believed to be involved in the shooting was at a residence on Hardesty Boulevard. He was taken into custody without incident.

“Based on preliminary information, there was a confrontation outside the store,” police said. “During the altercation, the injured male reportedly produced a handgun before gunshots rang out. Investigators believe the shooting likely stemmed from a prior dispute between both men.”

Shell casings and other evidence were collected from the scene.

12:10 a.m. Thursday

Police responded to a shooting at the Rubber City Lounge in the 400 block of North Main Street.

Upon their arrival, officers reportedly found a 42-year-old man in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

“According to information gathered at the scene, patrons inside the bar heard the sound of multiple gunshots outside and later found the victim injured on the ground,” according to a press release from Akron police. “Detectives are working to develop additional information to identify the person or persons responsible for the shooting.”
