Akron police search for suspects after separate shootings

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is looking for suspects involved in a pair of recent shootings.

Here’s a timeline of the shootings as released Monday by Akron police…

FRIDAY, JUNE 16

Akron police say it was just before 3 p.m. when officers heard nearby gunfire and responded to the scene in the 700 block of Corice Street.

Upon their arrival, officers found a 27-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. A tourniquet was applied and the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the victim reported that he was outside “when three unknown males got out of a car and started shooting.”

After the victim returned fire, the suspects reportedly fled the scene in a gray vehicle.

During the exchange of gunfire, a house was struck multiple times.

No additional injuries were reported.

Police say more than a dozen shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Detectives are working to identify the suspects involved.

SUNDAY, JUNE 18

It was around 1:45 p.m. when officers responded to a shooting in the 800 block of Brown Street.

Upon their arrival, officers found a 41-year-old man “with an apparent gunshot wound” and taken to an Akron hospital for treatment.

The victim reportedly told police that he and an acquaintance were walking down the street when the came upon the unknown male suspect sitting on a dirt bike.

“After the suspect spoke to them, he reportedly shot the victim and fled southbound on the dirt bike,” police said.

As authorities work to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, they’re asking anybody with information to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Summit County Crimestoppers at 330-434-COPS.
