AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's office confirms an Akron table tennis coach was arrested last week following allegations of "inappropriate relations" with a teen student at his academy.
Forty-year-old Samson Dubina, owner of the Samson Dubina Educational Table Tennis Academy on South Arlington Road, was taken into custody last Friday. He faces third-degree felony charges of sexual imposition in connection with the case, which officials say involves a 15-year-old girl.
According to the Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy's website, Dubina was a nationally ranked player in the sport before becoming a four-time national coach of the year. However, within the last month (around the time the sheriff's office says it started investigating), the school abruptly announced it was closing its doors after four years, only for Dubina to post on Facebook that he would be launching new programs thanks to a "restructuring." A new post on the site again lists it as being closed as of Monday.
Records do not show a prior criminal history for Dubina, nor do they indicate when he may make his initial appearance in court. 3News has reached out to Dubina for comment on the matter.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office says additional charges could be pending, and is asking anyone with information to immediately call its detective bureau at (330) 643-8640.
