AKRON, Ohio — The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force has arrested one of Akron's "most dangerous" fugitives.
Joe Fletcher III was arrested by officials at a home in the 700 block of Allyn Street in Akron Friday evening. Fletcher was found hiding in the basement of the home.
Fletcher III had been on the run since a judge released him from jail - without any security measures - to attend his daughter’s funeral.
Prosecutors asked for U.S. Marshals to escort Fletcher, calling him a flight risk and a threat to the community.
But for reasons unknown, Judge Solomon Oliver allowed Fletcher to leave prison Wednesday morning with his mother - no guards, no GPS.
Fletcher was supposed to return to jail by 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
He did not return. Instead, he’s once again, a dangerous fugitive.
On Thursday, we reported that 3News Investigates reached out to federal prosecutors and Judge Oliver. Neither of whom would comment.
After our story aired, the US Marshals announced a $5,000 reward Friday morning for information leading to Fletcher's arrest
A 29-year-old woman, with active warrants, was also arrested at the time of Fletcher III's arrest.
