City of Akron unveils new welcome signs created by local artists: photos, video

See them next Friday.

AKRON -- The city of Akron is ready to install four new welcome signs across the city.

The signs were created by local artists John Comunale and Michael Marras, who already have created sculptures located in the city.

Comunale's works include The Catfish by Northside Marketplace and the cement sun bears at the Akron Zoo.

Marras specializes in 2D and 3D mixed media art consisting of scrap metals. His works include the sculpture honoring Judith A. Read for Leadership Akron and a design seen on the side of Hazel Tree Design Studio.

The signs will be installed March 16 in high-traffic areas at:

620 West Avenue/Tallmadge Avenue

2602 West Market Street
