Akron Police are investigating a fight that lead to a shooting early Sunday morning.
Officials responded to a fight early Sunday morning outside of Zar nightclub at 357 South Main Street in Akron around 2:20 a.m.
According to reports, officers fired shots at two males that were threatening patrons and officers with a gun.
The two males returned fire towards the officers.
Both males, a 21-year-old and 23-year-old were shot and transported to local hospitals.
Both are listed in serious condition at this time.
According to Lt. Rick Edwards with Akron Police both men are expected to survive.
The names of the shooting victims are being withheld pending family notification.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
Police did recover a handgun from the scene.
Zar isn't the only destination on South Main. Randy McQuaid opened Woody's Sports Bar just seven months ago and since then has witnessed multiple fights and shootings in the area.
"Something happens down there, it comes down here and we have a negative effect. It hurts everybody in town here," he said of problems at Zar.
Charles Bartlett bartends at Tear-Ez across the street from Zar. He says they've had to close early several times because of violence spilling out of the night club.
"The people just don't care. There's police standing there and they will start a fight right next to the police officer like they don't even care," Bartlett told us.
Extra police do patrol the area on nights the club is open. We reached out to Zar, but numbers listed online were either consistently busy or disconnected. Signs on the doors say no firearms are allowed.
