A hidden gem in Northeast Ohio.
Just behind Canal Park is the Ohio and Erie Canal.
Early in Akron's history, it cut a path right through the center of town that eventually was lined with industries.
Today, most of those factories are gone, but Photojournalist Carl Bachtel shows us what's blooming now in the shadows of Akron's industrial past.
Along the Towpath Trail through downtown Akron, stands a corridor of pink.
"They're beautiful. I love them. That's part of the reason why I actually walk on this trail," said Jayme Romanchuk
From North Street to Russel Avenue, there are over 400 ornamental cherry trees, a donation from the Japanese Association of Northeast Ohio. The light pink blooms fill the eyes color and the heart with Joy.
" Just a beautiful thing to take a walk in. One of the prettiest areas in Akron, I think.>
The trees stand watch over the walkers, bikers and joggers along the Towpath. There are lots of places to stop and reflect on things," said Bruce Wilson.
