ID=28702917AKRON, Ohio -- At least one Akron City Council Member and mayoral candidate is asking for an investigation into what Mayor Garry Moneypenny admitted was bad behavior with a female city hall staffer.

"In the emotion of the moment, I turned a good-bye hug into a too-personal encounter," Moneypenny said Friday. "She was offended, as she rightly should have been."

MONEYPENNY RESIGNS: Akron Mayor announces resignation after a week in office

Council Member at-Large, and mayoral candidate, Michael Williams said "It doesn't just go away because someone resigned or anything like that," Williams told WKYC Channel 3's Hilary Golston. "You still have a process to go through."

Williams would not say exactly who the calls for resignation would come from.

"Frankly, once the employer is informed of the incident, they're required to investigate." Williams told Golston. Williams said the city must learn "exactly what transpired" and deal with the incident from "a legal perspective."

Williams also notes "there's potential for liability with this… it has to be thoroughly examined."

Moneypenny announced he would step down Wednesday at midnight late Monday afternoon, citing the inability to "effectively" govern after the political scandal.

"Upon reflection, I believe that staying on as interim Mayor is not in the best interests of the citizens of Akron. I believe under the circumstances I would not be able to operate effectively and move the City forward during the next seven months. Therefore, I am resigning from the office of Mayor effective Midnight, Wednesday, June 10, 2015."

Jeff Fusco, the current Council President, is next in line to take over the Office of Mayor.

Council members set a meeting for Thursday at 12:15 p.m. to elect a new council president and set committee appointments.
