Lyft driver arrested for allegedly kidnapping child amid dispute during ride with young girl's mother in Akron

'According to the woman, the Lyft driver stopped the car, and after she got out, he sped off with her nearly 2-year-old daughter in the back seat,' police said.

AKRON, Ohio — A 52-year-old Lyft driver, who has been identified as Steven Moore, was arrested in Akron on Friday and charged with kidnapping a child amid a dispute with the young girl’s mother during a ride.

Akron police say officers responded to the situation on Arlington Street and Triplett Boulevard where they spoke with a “frantic 25-year-old rider” who reported a dispute with the driver.

“According to the woman, the Lyft driver stopped the car, and after she got out, he sped off with her nearly 2-year-old daughter in the back seat,” according to Akron police.

While officers were investigating, dispatch notified them that the Lyft driver had arrived at the fire station on East Archwood Avenue with the child.

“Other responding officers rushed to the firehouse where they found the child unharmed,” according to Akron police.

Police say Moore was taken into custody without incident and charged with kidnapping and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was later booked in the Summit County Jail.
