21-year-old man arrested following fatal shooting in Akron

Investigators believe that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the two men earlier in the week.

AKRON, Ohio — A 21-year-old man is in custody following a fatal shooting in Akron.

Akron police say the shooting happened on Friday at around 9:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Beardsley Street. Upon arriving, officers found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

Officers later arrested 21-year-old Thomas Ellis III outside of a residence near the crime scene on Beardsley Street. Ellis is being charged with murder and felonious assault and is currently being held at the Summit County Jail. 

Police say that Ellis had a loaded handgun on him at the time of his arrest, which is believed to have been used in the crime. Investigators believe that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the two men earlier in the week.
