CLEVELAND — A man is in police custody after an "altercation" during a gathering in an Akron home resulted in a fatal stabbing overnight Sunday, authorities said.
Dareeque Dorman, 36, has been charged with murder and is being held in the Summit County Jail.
Police say around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Lindsay Avenue and found a 36-year-old victim who had been stabbed.
The victim was rushed to an Akron hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Akron Police Department, Dorman allegedly stabbed the victim after an "altercation" broke out during a gathering at the residence.
Police are not releasing the victim's name as the alleged stabbing remains under further investigation.
According to a news release, officers searched for Dorman in the home following the alleged attack, "but quickly learned he had fled the scene after the incident," police allege.
Officers secured the scene and briefly detained "several adults" inside the residence while police searched the surrounding streets for Dorman.
Dorman was allegedly later found walking several blocks away from the Lindsey Avenue residence about 10 minutes after police initially responded. Police allege he tried to run away from officers when they attempted to approach him, but was eventually arrested in the 700 block of Barbara Avenue.
