AKRON, Ohio — A man is dead following a late-night shooting which happened on the 600 block of Rhodes Avenue in Akron Sunday night, and officials believe it was because he was trying to rob someone.
A 27-year-old man told police he was walking along South Rhodes when he was approached by another individual holding a handgun. He allegedly demanded the 27-year-old's wallet, but the 27-year-old ended up shooting him with his own gun while he was distracted. The suspect then returned fire, shooting the 27-year-old in the arm and torso.
The suspect—identified as 22-year-old Jontae Alexander—was later found with "multiple gunshot wounds" and taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. The man who shot him suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
