NORTH CANTON --The story of a small-town high school football team destined to play theirrival and perennial powerhouse is the concept behind "Underdogs" -- the latest movie to film in Northeast Ohio.
And now is your chance to get a role in the film. An open casting call will be held Saturday, June 30 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Hoover Building in North Canton at 219 East Maple St. on the 4th floor.
Media Services Entertainment will be casting for the following roles:
- Football players who must have football experience (SAG/non-SAG). Ages 18-26. Height: 5'6" to 6'6".
- Cheerleaders who must have cheerleading experience (SAG/non-SAG). Ages 18-24. Height: 5'4" to 5'10".
Casting applications are available at www.underdogsthemovie.com and should be completed prior to the open casting session.
The film, which will be shot entirely in Ohio from July 16 through August 16, will be directed by Canton native Dough Dearth. Locations for the movie have not been announced.

According to Media Services Entertainment the movie is about beating the odds and rising to the challenges both on and off the field" like 'Hoosiers,' 'Rudy' and 'Facing the Giants."

Bobby Burkett is the promising quarterback for the Knights, but his Division Four school has never made a playoff appearance until Coach Vince DeAntonio's arrival. Their gruff new coach recruits a talented but insecure receiver and gives a juvenile delinquent offensive lineman a second chance. When Bobby falls for rival cheerleader Renee Donohue, a battle for more than a championship begins with the Falcon's "golden boy" quarterback John Hanford III.
Meanwhile, Bobby's father is being sued by his former employer and town patriarch John Hanford II over the intellectual rights to a revolutionary new energy saving product.
