CLEVELAND — Ohio Investigative Unit agents seized nearly $94,000, two guns and more than 150 machines from seven "illegal gambling parlors" in Akron on Wednesday, the agency said.

According to the OIU, agents with its Akron District Office collaborated with the Akron Police Department and Summit County Sheriff's Office to execute seven search warrants in the city. The warrants came after agents spent seven months investigating alleged illegal gambling operations on East Tallmadge Avenue, Brittain Road and Arlington Street.

Search warrants were served Wednesday at "five active gambling parlors and two liquor permit locations," the OIU said. Agents confiscated a total of 157 machines, two handguns and "numerous documents" along with $93,188. At one of the alleged gambling parlors, agents seized "suspected marijuana and other drugs."

Police issued criminal summonses to the owners and employees of the two locations with liquor permits — Dollar Magic on East Tallmadge Avenue and Dragon Asian Grocery on Brittain Road — to appear in Akron Municipal Court. They are charged with gambling and operating a gambling house.

The OIU said charges against the other five alleged gambling parlors are still pending.

Agents issued five administrative citations for gambling violations to both Dollar Magic and Dragon Asian Grocery.
